Buying a Used Pontoon Boat — 2018 Misty Harbor 1680RE | by Tom Gambill | SkiCat’s Earth Adventures | Medium

We have been looking for a pontoon boat to keep at the dock behind our house since we built the house years ago, but never got around to it. We had a lot to do finishing the house, then we got a pool, then the pandemic happened and boat prices went through the roof. Seems everyone and their friends bought a boat since they were bored “working” from home, and not traveling anymore. We decided we didn’t want to buy at the height of boat prices, then have the market go back down, so we waited.

It was a good thing we waited too, because as people go back to work, and start long-distance vacation traveling again, boats are slowly returning to realistic prices. I just happened to see this one pop up on Facebook marketplace, then I went to the broker site and contacted them directly. The next day we drove up to see it and put down a deposit. The boat overall is in amazing shape and was already a great deal, still, it needs a little work and a bit of new equipment and it should be good as new. They accepted our counteroffer, so we decided to go for it.

We are going to sell the trailer and the 40 HP Honda outboard, since we will keep it in the water at our dock permanently, and our lake is electric only, so we must convert it to electric. I already ordered the new motor, a new ePropulsion Navy Evo 6hp, which should be here in a week or so. However, the battery will not be here until next month. Seems the manufacturer stopped making the old batteries before they had enough stock of the new batteries, and they are back ordered across the country…go figure! I guess trade shortages are not completely over yet.
